West Kirby Disabled Swimming Club
We are a Club which meets to swim on a Friday each week at the Concourse Pool in at West Kirby Leisure Centre, CH48 4HX. We are a registered charity and the Club has been run by disabled and able-bodied members since 1983.
We have exclusive use of the pool from 12.00 noon to 1.00 pm, when only the disabled and helpers are allowed in the pool, avoiding the difficulties if children and the general public were present. The main aim of the Club is to help all our members to be as active as possible within the bounds of each individual’s disability. The cost of your weekly swim is £1.50 and the annual membership fee is £10.00. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide transport to the pool.
Join Us
We have volunteer helpers who join us each week, but if you have someone who would like to come as your helper that is welcomed, as we do have times when numbers of helpers are low.
When we meet on a Friday to swim some of us stay for lunch at the Concourse (there is a lift) thereby extending the time we are socializing. We meet for 48 weeks of the year and we are always ready to welcome people who would like to join us either as a swimmer or a helper.
The Club does have an age rule where members must be 18 years or over. Regrettably, we are unable to enroll those people who have frequent epileptic fits or those with severe behavioral problems.
We have hoists that may assist those that need it in and out of the water, various swimming aids and wet chairs to transport you to poolside and into the water. There are lifeguards on duty and we employ a disability swimming instructors to give advice and assistance.

We have two away breaks a year to Llandudno, one at Easter time and the other before Christmas. We have a Christmas Party, a buffet lunch in the summer and a day out during the summer as well. We use a coach lift so that no member is excluded.
Before joining the club there is an application form that has to be completed, it is available, to print, from the Contact page or collect it from us on Fridays.
